Private and independent funding
CHSP is a government-funded program that offers affordable, entry-level support for older Australians.
- Eligibility: 65+ (or 50+ for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people)
- Assessment: Through My Aged Care
- Fees: Government covers most of the cost; you pay a small contribution (VMCH CHSP fees start at $7.00).
It combines the Home Care Packages program and Short-Term Restorative Care into one simplified system, making it easier to access the right services.
How it works:
- You’ll have one assessment to determine your care classification
- Services will be grouped into clinical care, independence, and everyday living
- You may pay a co-contribution based on your income.
VMCH will support you through the transition and help you get the most from your funding.
RCP offers short-term support to help older Australians regain independence and delay entry into long-term care. Funded by the Australian Government, RCP includes services like physiotherapy, occupational therapy, podiatry, personal care, and domestic assistance.
-
Eligibility: Older people recovering from illness, slowing down physically or mentally, or needing help with daily tasks
-
Assessment: Through My Aged Care
-
Fees: Many care services are government-funded, though you may be asked to contribute depending on your individual care needs.
If you’re not eligible for government subsidies, don’t want to wait for funding, or need extra services beyond your package, you can pay privately.
Benefits of private care:
- No wait times! Start support immediately
- Flexible choice of services and frequency
- Competitive hourly or per-visit rates
